Financial Accountant

OVERALL ACCOUNTABILITY

The duties and responsibilities of this role are to manage all aspects of the financial accounting primarily for the organization not-for-profit subsidiary. This includes financial statement preparation, quarterly Board reporting, preparing for financial statement audits, transfer pricing and intercompany transactions, general ledger maintenance and reconciliations. This position would play a lead role in budget and forecast preparation, be involved in various new and ongoing projects and recommend efficiencies. In addition, this role will assist in the preparation and review of the financial statements when necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting:

  • Creation of monthly reports including forecasting, cash flow statements and balance sheets
  • Development and documentation of processes and procedures ensuring financial controls are in place for the organization
  • Involvement in preparing presentations to the Board Meeting
  • Conduct variance analysis and participation in valuation exercises for the subsidiaries
  • Accomplishes finance and organizational mission by completing related results as needed

Financial Accounting and Analysis:

  • Produce detailed monthly statements for each department, along with a consolidated income statement and balance sheet
  • Review and analyze financials statements and assist in the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts
  • Produce various reconciliations
  • Lead the interim and year-end audits (i.e. preparation of financial statements and working papers) and liaise with the external financial statement Auditor

Requirements

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or diploma in business, finance, accounting, or a related field
  • A recognized professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA), qualified or in the final stages of qualifying
  • 5+ years of financial accounting experience
  • Experience with Epicor or similar ERP system is an asset

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work with all levels of management
  • Knowledge of transfer pricing and Canadian ASPE (would be an asset)
  • Knowledge of royalty payments and/or music industry (would be an asset)
  • Strong software application skills, advanced MS Excel, MS Access, IBM TM1 and Business Intelligence tools (e.g. Microstrategy, EPM)
